The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Drops its First DLC
Nintendo has finally broken their silence and released a detailed breakdown of what will be included in the DLC for Breath of the Wild.
The first feature is a horde mode called Trial of the Sword. It will be accessible through an in-game location and requires Link to face off against increasingly difficult waves of enemies without any weapons or armour. Completing all the trails (45 in total) unlocks the full potential of the Master Sword, allowing it to be used in its glowing state permanently.
The next addition is small but important one for completionists. The Hero’s Path mode adds a map feature that tracks where Link has walked over the last 200 hours of gameplay. Basically, it keeps a record of exactly where you have been and, more importantly, where you have yet to explore. The update also works retroactively for players who have already sunk hours into the game.
The last big change is a new Hard Mode. Starting the game on this difficulty automatically upgrades all the enemy types by one level. For example, Red Bokoblins in Normal Mode will now be levelled up to the much tougher Blue variants. Additionally, enemies now regain health over time and can have higher maximum levels than other modes.
Outside of the big three additions, there is a host of smaller changes to the game. Scattered around Hyrule are new chests that contain armour and masks inspired by the other entries in the franchise. There is a wearable Majora’s Mask and Midna’s Helmet from Major’s Mask and Twilight Princess respectively, and there is Tingle’s Outfit from our nightmares. Most of these items are purely cosmetic, but the Korok Mask will be another boon to completionists as it will shake when it’s near one of the game’s 900 hidden Koroks.
This is only the first of the two planned DLCs and will release in the winter. The second, which includes an expansion to the game’s story, has yet to be given a release date.Source: http://zelda.com/breath-of-the-wild/news/expansion-pass-dlc-pack-1-detailed/
