Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty
If you don’t remember what it was like to kick back with Abe back in the 90’s, never fear, because he’s being brought back and he looks better than ever. Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is a re-creation of this original game, which was a platforming adventure that followed Oddworld’s unlikeliest hero, Abe, as he journeys to save his race from becoming the next delicacy of choice at the RuptureFarms meat-processing plant.
Built from the ground up as a collaboration by independent developers, Just Add Water and Oddworld Inhabitants, New ‘n’ Tasty is set to be more than a simple HD remake with some updated textures. Meticulous care has gone into every part of this game to ensure that the appeal and fun of the first game, with the aesthetics and control of modern gaming. What was a traditionally 2D platformer is being enhanced by 3D, creating a new experience for gamers both old and new to the franchise.
Gameplay looks to be quite similar to its predecessor, full of solid platforming mixed with puzzles, a darkly humorous storyline, and just a splash of gore. As Abe runs, jumps and sneak through the RuptureFarms factory, he must help his fellow Mudokons escape, before they end up on the menu themselves, but enemies are lurking around every corner, looking to put a stop to the Mudokons once and for all.
The game will come with a classic mode, which is similar to the 2D platforming of the original, as well as a New ‘n’ Tasty mode, with extra control refinements and puzzle tweaks. The game is also being developed with some additional next gen features for PS4 and PC users, however there should be no loss of quality with between current and next gen consoles, with identical gameplay and cutscenes for all platforms. With all new sound, graphics and physics, New ‘n’ Tasty seems to be bringing the nostalgia back, while keeping the door open for new players to immerse themselves in Oddworld.
New ‘n’ Tasty will be released on multiple platforms, including Windows PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation Network, and Wii U. No release date has been set yet, but it’s rumoured to be coming out sometime this year. So until then you might want to sit back with your favourite gaming platform, the original Abe’s Oddysee, and a nice, juicy Mudokon Pop.
