More Pokkén Tournament Details Announced
A live stream last Friday night has revealed further information about the arcade fighter Pokkén Tournament being developed by The Pokémon Company Bandai Namco.
The roster was expanded upon with the initial characters of Machamp and Lucario with Suicune, Gardevoir and Pikachu. These Pokemon fight with psychic, water and ice and electric attacks, similar to attacks the respective Pokémon have.
Instead of using a fighter stick, players will use specialised controllers with a directional pad, ABXY face buttons and L and R shoulder buttons.
Game modes include a single player, online multiplayer, and in-store multiplayer, as well as a tutorial. The gameplay consists of 3D movement around a circular playing field, allowing players to dodge out of attacks. During gameplay, players can fill up a Resonance Gauge to give extra damage and a Burst Attack and enables Mega Evolution for those who can Mega Evolve.
Support Pokemon have also been included. Each player chooses a support set of two Pokemon and players choose one from this set at the beginning of a fight, which can be called on at any time. After being called, the Pokemon enters a cool down period before it can be used again. Initial support Pokémon include Lapras, Snivy, Emolga and Fennekin.
Location testing of Pokkén Tournament in Japan will commence at select arcades on January 30th, 31st and February 1st, and February 14th at the Japan Amusement Expo.
There is still no word on a non-arcade or Western release.
